What Does LA Grade B Esophagitis Mean?

I had an endoscopy done yesterday and am awaiting biopsy results. I do appear to have LA Grade B esophagitis and abnormal mucosa in the esophagus. I am starting Priolosec. What does LA Grade B esophagitis mean? I am a 63 year old caucasian male who does not smoke and had indigestion regularly between my 20s and 40s. Since then I do not suffer from indigestion.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

LA Grade B esophagitis means irritation in your esophagus with mucosal breaks of over 5 mm in length (grade A is less than 5 mm breaks of mucosa).

This is not cancer, so there is nothing to worry about. Just follow the instructions of your doctor related to treatment and follow up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
