Hi, Im just concern with my friend medical results, we are surprise about it because his TPHA result is reactive . When we search to the internet it s about syphilis. Apparently he doesn t show any sign and symptoms of syphilis and no clinical history since that s why were surprise, TPHA is 100% accurate? HIV/Aids is non reactive.
Yes, this test is for syphilis. Based on the principle of passive haemagglutination, this test detects anti-treponemal antibodies (IgG and IgM antibodies) in serum or CSF.
Reactive results may indicate an active, past, or successfully treated the infection.
A diagnosis should be made with a careful history of the patient and a physical examination as well as pertinent laboratory results.
Although TPHA test is highly specific, false positive results have been known to occur in patients suffering from leprosy, infectious mononucleosis and connective tissue disorders. For confirmation, the FTA-ABS test should be used.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
