What Does TSH 2.37 And Free T4 1.2 Indicate?

Hello Dr. Topiwala... I recently (May) had my thyroid blood test (TSH, Free T4) My TSH was .53 and Free T4 1.3. I m experiencing symptions both hypo & hyper - anxiety, hair falling out, puffy eyes, slight weight gain, swollen feet/legs/hands, poor sleep, brain fog. I am 44yrs old, was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism & Graves Disease in 1999. I was treated with RadioIodine twice. I am taking Synthroid .112 mcg daily. The last time I did blood test was in April 2013. TSH 2.37 & Free T4 1.2. Could you tell me what my recent test result mean and if I am taking to much thyroid med. or could there be an underlying health issue? Thank you kindly, Loretta

Hi thanks for using healthcaremagic...
Your situation is post radio active Hypothyroidism ie.hypothyroidism following radioactive iodine therapy. You had hyperthyroidism initially treated with radio active iodine and became hypothyroid. Now you require thyroid hormone replacement in the form of thyroid tablet. But for a post radio active patient it is better to keep the TSH below 1.00
Please consult your doctor and ask for increasing the dose of Synthyroid ..
Thank you....
