What Does A BP Level Of 203/73 Indicate?

My dad had 203/73 blood pressure last night and I m worried about him! He normally has perfect blood pressure like 118/78. He went to the walk in centre and they just gave him Amlodipine. It s brought it down to 176/73 last night but I m worried. He s going to the doctors today if we can get him an appointment. He had a headache with it last night but when his blood level came down a bit, it went. please help. From Kara

This indicates severe hypertension. His blood pressure is not controlled properly and medication needs to be revised. For this visit your Dr.Amlodipine is a good and very safe drug to reduce bp but maximum dose of it is 10 mg per day.He needs further work up too like 2D echo,ECG,sonography,renal and carotid Doppler,lipid and thyroid profile.
