What Does A Black Spot In The Throat Indicate?

Hi, I had a tonsillectomy on January 9th. I m now on day 10 of my recovery. I think it is normal for most of the white to still be in the back of my throat, but today I noticed a black spot on the left side. Is this bad or normal? Does this mean I m getting ready to lose the white scabs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The black spot over the operated part is most likely a scab formed after the postoperative bleed to some extent.

There is nothing to worry about, but gargles with salted lukewarm water will help to prevent secondary bacterial infection in that scab.

Continue medications and other guidelines following as per your doc`s advise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
