What Does A Black Spot On The Sole Of The Foot Indicate?

My partner has a black spot beneith the skin on the bottom of his foot. It has gotten larger in the last two weeks and now appears swollen and yellow around it. The black spot is about the size of the end of a pencil eraser. He is also having trouble walking now.
