What Does A Black Spot On The Tongue Indicate?

Dear sir, question: what is the reason of black spot in the right side of the tongue? The person who has this saying that, this is due to side effects of Polio injection in 6 years of age in India. Is it the possible scenario? I want to make sure it. Thanks, Tufan

Thanks for the query..

Black spot on the tongue can be due to causes like Oral Melanotic macule that can be due to accumulation of melanin pigments in a confined area of the tongue..
It is commonly harmless and does not cause any problems..

But in case if the spot is raised and tender then you should consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated so that a clinical examination can be done.

In case if there is any doubt then Biopsy can be done for confirmation of the cause and treatment can be done accordingly..
