Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How bad is a 265 blood sugar reading, my mother has been really sick lately going through all kinds of tests. they sai she has anemia due to low iron. she has been taking iron supplements but it hasn t gone up to normal levels. She has to have a colonoscopy in 4 days and they told her to stop taking the iron. She says she feels really week, can barely lift her hands, feels really hot and clammy and cant stay awake. What should I do and is there any immediate danger?
She should continue taking iron suppliments along with iron rich diet but it needs to get evaluated as the drop in hemoglobin with raised blood sugar is not a good sign.
I suggest you to go for a USG abdomen and LFT and Stool examination (for 3 consecutive days if her colonoscopy will show normal study).
If she is on treatment for Sugar then i suggest you to have an appointment with the endocrinologist so that he/she can increase the dose of insulin.
Weakness is a result of decreased haemoglobin , once it will increase she will be fine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Naira Jahangir, OB and GYN Specialist
