What Does A Boil On The Neck Indicate?

I have a boil on my neck. It started out like a mosquito bite last Monday but got bigger and sore as the week went on. Friday, I went to my family doctor and he said it was a boil and that I needed a surgeon to lance it. He also prescribed a sulphur antibiotic. I have taken the pills, but the boil has doubled in size in one day. My doctor said there would not be a surgeon available until Monday. What do you recommend?
