What Does A Bruised Rash Under Armpit Indicate?

I have a mark under my armpit that looks like a bruise but is not a bruise. It has been there for 2 months and has grown in size. I have had this area biopsied and it came back negative. any guesses what this might be? The dark area of skin almost seems necrotic and is definitely dry and sometimes itchy with no pain.

Hi,

A bruised rash under the armpit that does not heal and grows in size could be indicative of several conditions, and further evaluation by a healthcare provider is recommended. Some possible causes of a rash in the armpit area include:
* Fungal or bacterial infections: A fungal or bacterial infection can cause a rash that looks like a bruise. It may be red, swollen, and itchy, and it can spread over time if not treated.
* Contact dermatitis: Contact dermatitis is a type of skin rash that develops when the skin comes in contact with an irritant or allergen. The rash may be red, itchy, and may look like a bruise. It can occur due to contact with substances like soaps, lotions, deodorants, or fabrics.
* Hidradenitis suppurativa: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic skin condition that affects the apocrine sweat glands, which are found in areas such as the armpits, groin, and buttocks. It can cause painful nodules, abscesses, and scarring in the affected area.
* Skin cancer: While it is less common, a bruised rash under the armpit could be a sign of skin cancer, particularly melanoma. Melanoma can develop in areas of the body that are not typically exposed to the sun, such as the armpits.

Since you have already had the area biopsied and it came back negative, it may be due to another cause. Your healthcare provider may suggest further testing, such as a skin biopsy or imaging tests, to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
