What Does A Bump Under The Tongue Indicate?

Hi there, I recently went to the bathroom to wash up. Was cleaning my teeth when I looked under my tongue. And I'm not quite sure what the right term for this is, but I have this bump under my tongue right on that string thing that holds your tongue in place. Sorry again don't know the right term for it.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your question indicates that you have a bump on the lingual frenulum.
The right word for the string that holds the tongue is Lingual Frenulum that is a fold of mucosa.

A bump on the frenulum can be due to either any traumatic injury while eating something hard or sharp leading to formation of a blood blister.

It can also be due to injured minor salivary gland that are present in abundance in that area leading to Mucocele formation.

Both the conditions are harmless and commonly tend to resolve on its own..

You can simply start doing concentrated salt water rinses atleast 2-3 times a day.
Watch it after a week.
Hopefully you will find that it has regresses in size.
But in case if it tend to grow then you can once get it examined by an Oral Physician.

Hope you find the information helpful..

Regards.
