What Does A Dent In Leg Indicate When Suffering From Chest Congestion?

I have just started a cold a couple days ago, a lot of phlem in my chest, after getting out of the shower today i noticed a dent in my lower left leg that is very noticable. It was not there before my shower and i did not hit it on anything. I stand all day at work and am just concerned. I have heart problems as well. Please advise me what i should do.

Hello,

Possible causes of your dent in one leg are edema of the legs (meaning swelling of your legs and any pressure on the swelling leads to a pit or dent). Swelling of legs occurs in heart failure and kidney diseases or failure. The dent might be caused by trivial trauma gone unnoticed. A varicose vein due to prolonged standing.

Please do consult a physician for a thorough clinical examination of your dent on the left lower leg. Only after examination we can come to a conclusion of diagnosis and treat accordingly. This is not related to your cold or phlegm in the chest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
