What Does A Heart Attack Causing 25% Heart Function Mean?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...my husband had heart attack; was not diagnosed in ER immediately. 14 hours later a cath was performed and he had 100% blockage in an artery. Now he has 25% heart function. What does this mean?
Hello, Thanks for writing to HCM. The heart function is measured by ECHO of the heart and that in lay language would be the capacity of heart to pump blood. The normal range is between 55- 65% .So the heart in normal condition also does not pump 100% of the blood. Now what is the range to worry , and why does it decrease. It decreases because muscles after heart attack is replaced by scar- which does not have the capacity to pump blood. The range to worry is below 30% So in your case it is well below..It can be dealt by getting some drug which to some extent increases the pumping power by forcing the remaining muscles to work effectively. So take the drug prescribed and that may help. Take care. Dr Sanjay Mishra.
