What Does A Hole In The Tongue Indicate?

Hello my fr has has an odd hole in his tongue he does chew snuff it is discolored it is painful for him to stick his tongue out I would say the whole is about 3/8 of an inch long by 1/4 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep not quite half inch deep to go three sixteenths of an inch deep it s white surrounded and the inner color is bluish-green how we have pictures how can I send them

It is very nice that you had explained clearly including dimensions about odd hole (ulcer) on tongue of your friend. First of all it made me clear that there was a big ulcer on the tongue which is bluish green surrounded by white. Ulcers may be due to chronic smoking, eating some foods, severe stress, infection (syphilis) etc. Some ulcers may be due to cancer.

First we have to eliminate possibility of cancer by observing following things:

1. It may start off as a small white patch.
2. ulcer will be slightly raised edges
3. area around the ulcer may be grey / white.
4. whole affected area may be slightly swollen.
5. middle area is red and bleed easily.

There are very minimum chances of cancer in case of your friend. So follow the relieving methods:

1.Rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution.
2. baking soda mouth rinse.
3. use milk of magnesia.
4. Wash the sore with hydrogen peroxide.
5. Drink beneficial fruit juices.

Symptoms will relieve soon.
