What Does A Lesion Under The Left Eye Indicate?

My mother is 85 yowf with a mushroom like lesion under left eye/very fast growing and looks absolutely horrible. I am a RN and feel sure that this is a squamous cell ca, however she had a stroke 45 years ago and has vascular dementia and will not let anybody hardly touch her much less biopsy. She had hip replacement surgery 5 years ago and was not expected to make it thru and I am doubting that anyone will put her to sleep and do the reconstruction she will need at her age and medical hx. Any suggestions

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Lesion under the eye which is mushroom shaped can be squamous cell carcinoma or basal cell carcinoma. It has to be confirmed by excision and biopsy. Then depending on the spread she may have to take chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She can be given general anesthesia and the procedure can be done, if she is not cooperative due to her dementia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sanjay Kini
