What Does A Lump At A Surgical Incision Site Indicate?

Hi I had chalazion surgery this past Monday, March 13th. I went to an oculoplastic and he went in from the outside. Swelling and bruising is all gone and I see a tiny cut mark that is slowly getting smaller. My questions are: I am noticing that since the cut mark is getting smaller I am seeing a small lump still and I am noticing that he cut just a bit next to the original lump not directly on the lump. Is this normal? He told he that he was positive he was able to drain the cyst but now I am not sure he went in at the right place or perhaps I have another one that he missed, or is it just normal to have a small bump still after 5 days??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The possible lump like feeling at the scar site of chalazion surgery is part of the normal postoperative recovery in which there are neutrophils coming at the place which will be taken over by fibrous scar formation after 7-10 days period.

* So far as the scar is concerned, it is not necessary to keep it on exact the lesion every time, it depends upon the type of condition.
* In your case, it is always preferable to be in a dependent position below the lesion to get best results of draining the contents inside.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
