What Does A Lump In The Armpit Indicate?

My son is 14 and has a fairly large size lump in his armpit. He says it only hurts after he raises his arm and releases it down to normal postion. There is no indication of it being an ingrown hair or a boil. It s not red or looks irritated. Do you have an idea what this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for your question. I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. As per your history, Please find my advice below-:
1)Do full blood count with differential to ruled out bacterial origin
2)Do a MONOSPOT test to ruled out viral origin
3)If above two test is negative final diagnosis will be (LIPOMA) ,so consult a surgical specialist in your local area and get it excised .It is a minor out patient procedure of just 15 mins.

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.
Wishing you all the best.
Thanks,
I find this answer helpful
