Because the symptoms have been lasting for months now it is important for the vocal cords to be visualized with an indirect laringoscopy which sometimes the doctor in the office (the GP) can do as well. If there are no nodules or masses in the vocal cord then this is reassuring and you can wait for the visit with the specialist whenever it is planned.
Meanwhile you can try some antihistamines like Loratadine 10 mg at night in case it is related to any local reaction due to allergy. If no improvement in 2 weeks of using it very likely this is not the cause.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
