Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi i developed this knot type thing on my left cheek bone went to the doc they said it is parotitis and gave me antibiotics . my question is that this is my third day taking the antibiotics but i still feel the knot type thing there how long is it going to take to go away
If the knot is extending from the area infront of the ear then it can be probably due to infection in the parotid gland leading to Parotitis.. But if the knot is on the cheek bone that is on the most prominent part of cheek then it is not due to Parotitis.. So first of all please confirm the exact site of the knot.. Secondly if it is parotitis then you will have to take antibiotics along with anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Naproxen etc for atleast a week for the symptoms to resolve.. You should also do cool compresses over it.. If it does not resolve then an x ray or Ultrasound has to be done for ruling out what exactly it is and then it can be treated accordingly.. But for now continue the medicines for atleast a weak and do not panic..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
