What Does A Mass Of Skin Near Tonsils Indicate?

Hello! I d appreciate if anyone could answer this question for me. I ve just noticed a (estimated 1/2 in size) round, flesh-colored mass just behind the anterior tonsillar pillar and in front of my left tonsil. It appears to be a bit red and looks like it has one hole in it. I m 21 years old, a smoker for 6 years, have had a constant low-grade sore throat for as long as I can remember, awful allergies, and a cough. I m sick with bronchitis, strep throat, sinus infections, etc. multiple times annually. I m always clearing my throat because it feels like something s always in the way. I ve been freaking out and inable to see a doctor so I was wondering if anyone knew what this could possibly be? Help!

Hi,

The mass of skin that you are describing could be a few different things. It may be a tonsillolith, also known as a tonsil stone, which is a calcified deposit that forms in the crevices of the tonsils. These can sometimes cause discomfort or a feeling of something being stuck in the throat, and may also contribute to bad breath. Another possibility is that the mass is a cyst or a benign growth, such as a papilloma or fibroma. These types of growth are generally harmless but can sometimes cause discomfort or irritation.

Given your history of frequent respiratory infections, it's also possible that the mass is related to your allergies or chronic sore throat. It would be best to have a medical professional evaluate the mass to determine the cause and whether any treatment is necessary. If you are unable to see a doctor, consider using a telemedicine service to consult with a healthcare provider remotely.

If you require a personalized response, kindly use the Ask A Doctor service and post a follow-up. Take care. Hope I have answered your question.
