What Does A Painful Bump On The Buttocks Indicate?

I have had trouble with my right side in the back. I am not sure whether to call it lower back or upper buttock. I want to call it my hip or pelvis bone, since that is where the pain is. Today I noticed a bump on that side and th left is normal. The pain comes and goes but it visits for quite awhile before leaving. It is here now and makes it difficult to stand, walk, or bend.
