What Does A Painful Bump On The Left Knee Indicate?

Hello.....I stumbled on a curb while on vacation and twisted my left leg, it is sore still after 10 days and I feel a slight bump on the left side of the bottom of my knee. I am typically very active, i.e. running, going regularly to the gym, pilates, etc. and this is keeping me from doing those things. I ve tried ibuprofen and icing it, but nothing seems to help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Without being able to examine your knee, I am limited to only giving you possibilities of what it might be: Depending on the size, color, etc, it may be a hematoma (collection of blood/bruise) that will take days weeks to reabsorb depending on the severity. It may also be a fracture in which a fragment of bone is displaced. You may want to consider going in to have it seen in person.

Regards,
