my husband is 10 days post op total hip replacement. Today he has developed a hard painful lump near his incision sight around 4 inches in length. Almost like a muscle that tightened and didnt go down? also near the outside of his knee he has an indent which just appeared today. No fever, no oozing from the site, no redness.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is not likely related to muscle but may be a small haematoma or the formation of scar tissue from the surgery.
Contraction of tissues would cause indentation to occur.
You can consider monitoring for now, if there is no fever, increased warmth in the area, increased pain or increased redness then no intervention may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
