What Does A Painful Lump On The Upper Neck Indicate?

Hello! I have a painful lump (I believe it to be submandibular versus lymph node) that appeared today on the left side of my upper neck/lower jaw. I have been having left ear issues (feeling blocked, having hearing issues - think it s wax build up). I was at the dentist a month ago and after a panoramic x-ray, she asked me if I had any issues with my lower left jaw (which I haven t). I don t know if I need to see a doctor now or wait to see if the pain goes away.....

The question the dentist asked, should direct us to a dental cause. Maybe she have seen, for example, an impacted tooth.

The sudden appearance of a painful lump is consistent with an inflammatory process.

This could be an inflamed LN secondary to dental or ear infection. It could also be an inflamed submandibular salivary gland.

Maybe you can share your panorama X ray report with us to see what suspicious finding did the doctor see, then asked you if you have such problems.

Until you perform further investigations, I'd advise you to use OTC analgesic to relief the pain.
