What Does A Painful Small Bump On The Palm Indicate?
I woke up this morning with a small bump on my palm about 1 from the start of my pinky. it did hurt to touch but nothing when left alone. as I put it under a light to examine it I stretched my hand by straightening and spreading my fingers. the bump then just popped back in. there is a small amount pain in the area but nothing significant. I did break it in this spot 20+ years ago but don t recall doing anything that would cause it to break again.
It is unlikely that there is a new break. The palm is a very mobile area, and there are pockets of fluid called bursae that helps cushion the ligaments as they move along. It could be a bursa that had gotten inflamed and pushed out of place from overuse, or it could be a fragment leftover from your old fracture that has since rounded out and floats freely in the space. In general, not something to worry about unless it keeps recurring and bothers you.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any further questions if needed.
Regards, Dr. Teh
