What Does A Painful Sore On The Scalp Indicate?

I have a sore area on my scalp that is hurtful to touch and it is about 2 in. by 2 in. There is no swelling, no injury, no open skin spots or anything else I can find or contribute it to. It hurts so much that I am taking excedrin for pain. What do you think I should do?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Sore on the scalp may be due to folliculitis or impetigo or boils or carbuncles etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Use painkiller medication, apply heat compression. If it is infectious aetiology may need to take oral antibiotics. Please consult your physician he will examine locally and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
