Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does A Painful Spot On The Buttocks Indicate?
I have developed a very painful spot on the left cheek of my buttocks. I m not sure if it is a pressure sore or a fissure. I sit most of the time due to a bad hip, even have to sleep in a recliner. I have a very thick cussion in the recliner. I have applied Lantiseptic ointment, desitin diaper rash cream and triple antibiotic ointment. These products give temporary relief. I was wondering if a sitz bath might bring relief and healing. What are your suggestions.
I would like to tell you it does seem to me that you have developed a pressure sore due to prolonged sitting or reclining in the same position.
My advice would be to get it checked by a physician as you have already tried applying antiseptics and antibiotic ointments.
If the sore is not healing it needs immediate attention before it develops into a non-healing ulcer. You may also need cleaning and debridement depending on the condition of the sore.
Meanwhile, apply warm saline compresses to the area. Avoid putting pressure on the region for prolonged periods.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
