What Does A Painless Lump On Head Of A Child Indicate?
My 7 year old daughter has a lump, maybe an inch around on the top of her head. She said it doesn t hurt & it is round shaped. We are out of town & can t see her Dr till next week. Should I be worried & just drive back home early? No uneven borders.
Hi Painless soft tissue swellings in the scalp are usually sebaceous cysts or dermoid cysts. This requires clinical examination for final diagnosis and to rule out dangerous conditions such as meningocoel.
These are benign swellings and need not be worried or rushed to the ER. However do visit a Surgeon as soon as you get back. Your surgeon might ask you to get a CT scan done to assess the intracranial extension. Surgical excision is the definitive treatment for this. This shouldn't be a problem because these are minor surgeries and need not be worried.
