What Does A Rash On The Left Forearm Indicate?

I have a strange rash on my arms. It started out 3 days ago as a small patch on my left forearm but has been continuously spreading. It s currently up and down both arms and on my inner thigh. It s extremely itchy and warm to the touch. I don t know if I should make an appointment or continue taking benadryl to help with the irritation until it goes away.

Hi,

Rashes spreading from the arm that began as a small patch and with severe itching seems to be most probably due to an allergic reaction.

It can be due to any cosmetics, detergents or soaps or can be due to any food, medicine, bug bites etc.

I would suggest you consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc., can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

The tests will help in ruling out the exact cause of the allergen and once you know the cause of the allergic reaction you can avoid exposure to it and prevent the allergy attack.

The allergist can advise oral anti-allergic as well as injectable steroids for relief.

As of now, you can take anti-allergics like Levocetirizine, Allegra to control the itching and swelling.

Do cool compresses. Application of calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin.
