What Does A Rash On The Left Side Of The Back Indicate?

My Husband has a square patch on the left side of his back (Kidney location) Looks square and is 3 x 6 inches and looks red and purple,not quite a bruise kind of looks like a rash. Makes me a little nervous. No previous injury there.Should he go and have this checked out by a doctor?

Hi. Please get it checked by a doctor, as most skin conditions are better diagnosed and treated when examined in person. Also please mention any other symptoms he is having like itching, pain, any other site with similar lesion. Thank you
