Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a possible skin cancer excised from my leg on monday almost a week. it has looked infected since... it has not gotten worse but continues to itch and remain red around the eraser sized incision site and the wound looks yellow and not scabbed over yet. I never get sick or infection so I thought nothing of it. It persists and now I wonder ... no time to go to dr. so, thoughts...?
As per my clinical experience, the red and itchy patch of skin after surgery for certain pathology, indicates possible infection through some sort of bacteria most likely staph aureus. Kindly get a swab report of culture done with expert microbiologist after discussion for the same from your treating surgeon. Till that time, sterile dressing and prescribed antibiotics will do best for the recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
