What Does A Red And Swollen Rash In The Armpit Indicate?
Hi. My boyfriend got a rash under one of his armpits a few days ago. The area became red and swollen. The swelling appears to have gone down, but now the skin seems to be turning white and flaking. Under the flaking skin, the skin is red. We have been having hot and humid weather for the past week, so Im guessing that may be contributing. Is there any suggested creams to help the redness and flaking skin?
This very likely is a yeast infection. He may use Miconazole cream (or any other anti-fungal cream he may find) twice a day for 7-10 days. He should apply it on the area and 2 cm beyond the lesion as yeast infection may be beyond the visible lesion.
If he is not better in 4-5 days or if he notices any worsening he will need to see his doctor.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
