Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has a pretty large circular scaly rash in the center of his chest. Ha also has a smaller same type of rash on his face(cheek, eyebrows, and chin area). This on his face has appeared most recently. Could you give may any advice as to what it might be and what kind of treatment or topical cream or essential oils could be used on this to clear it up
Such rashes are also on face, cheek, chin and eyebrows. His symptoms are indicative of fungal infection, mild jock itch infection. He can apply an antifungal ointment, cream or gel like clotrimazole or miconazole and apply on the area affected. The ointment should not go inside his eyes. Be very careful. Continue to apply the medicine for at least a week or two till the rash clears up.
You have not mentioned the age of your son. If the rash is resistant he will need treatment with oral Fluconazole. He is suggested to take care of his hygiene, wear soft cotton clothes. Avoid wearing synthetic clothes as they trap heat. Fungal infection spreads in warm humid conditions. He should take bath everyday and keep himself dry before applying the ointment. Wash his clothes in hot water everyday.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
