What Does A Subchorionic Cyst On An Ultrasound Report Indicate?
I am 8 weeks pregnant and had my first ultrasound today. The doctor mentioned that I had a small subchorionic cyst and that I should abstain from sex. She didn t seem overly worried, but I can t find much information on the outcome of subchorionic cysts. Should I be worried? Is this common and are there any treatments?
We do not know the size of the cyst but considering that your doctor was not very worried I guess it is safe to assume it was not very big. Subchorionic cysts are benign and can be seen in 5-10% of placenta. Placenta is the disc like organ developed in your uterus during pregnancy that serves as a communication between you and the baby. Now, subchorionic cysts are sometimes confused with subchorionic bleeding, that is bleeding inside the placenta. Small bleeding or blood collection is common and does not cause any harm. But a larger bleeding may harm the baby and even you. If there is a blood collection, sexual intercourse may increase its size. Since it is not always possible to tell the bleeding and cyst apart, the doctor did not want to take chances and asked you to abstain. I hope this clears up the situation. Just take rest and follow the advice, you should be fine.
