Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was thrown off a jet ski today. When I got home I found that my right calf was very swollen and was a very large lump. It is not painful and I have been icing it. I am 69 years old and have had a pulmonary embolism. Anything to worry about or just a bad bruise.
You have sustained contusion of the right calf, with a possible hematoma, which is the large lump. Most important is to give absolute rest to your right lower limb. It would be good, if you could use a 'walker', and ambulate without weight-bearing on your right foot. Thus the calf muscles will get good rest and the contusion and injury will heal faster. However it may be about 10 days to 2 weeks till complete recovery. Regarding the hematoma, there is a chance it may resolve in this time. If it does not resolve, it would require surgical evacuation. You would then have to consult a general surgeon.
