What Does A Swollen Lymph Node On The Neck Indicate?
Hi doctor, I recently had an ultra-sound and it revealed a 7 ml. lymph node and several small ones in my neck. I m concerned that it maybe cancer. Can you tell me what this ultra-sound means for me. I have an appt. Sept. 6 to have diagnosed by ent. But any info. before this would help me not think about it so much. Can you help me? Thank you, Melvalene Kirkpatrick - YYYY@YYYY
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I can understand your worries, in fact many people would be scared by l nodes as they think these are caused by cancers, and this can be the case some times. However cancer is not only cause of enlarged lymph nodes, rather it is uncommon cause. Most of l nodes are not caused by cancer, very often these are caused by local infection, like sore throat. So, if you are other wise feeling well, and you do not have significant weight loss, and these nodes are not very rapidly growing, I can say this would be less likely to be cancer related.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
