Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does A White Spot On Distal Femur Post Injury Mean?
I injured my femur, had an xray, and they incidentally found a white spot on the distal femur. I have a lot of joint pain all over my body and have been diagnosed with DJD. I have a lot of low back, hip and knee pain especially. I don t think I have ever injured my left leg prior to this injury. I am supposed to have an MRI done. What could this be? Three doctors have said it s probably nothing that I work with (I am a nurse).
Usually it may be nothing to be of concern. However, presence of chondroblastoma (a benign tumor of bone) should be ruled out. Chondroblastoma is a tumor, usually found at ends of long bones, particularly femur or tibia etc. It is a very rare tumor (1% of all bone tumors).
It is more in males than females having a ratio of 4::1 male to female and is mostly seen under 25 of age. It has an appearance of a small spot which is defined by a rim of white appearance at the periphery of spot. Sometimes, this spot is all covered by calcification giving the spot a clear whitish appearance. An MRI as well as biopsy of the lesion may be necessary to finalize the diagnosis particularly to rule out chondrosarcoma - a very rare but cancerous tumor of bone.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
