Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Abdominal Distention Below The Rib Cage Indicate?
My daughter has CF and has been taking prednisone fo about 2 months. She is 12 and not yet having periods. She recently complained of having a second stomach, above her first stomach. She said she thinks she has been experiencing this for about 1 month. Basically, she has a bulge right below her rib cage--all the way across her belly. It is not causing her pain but it is noticeable in profile and is bothering her.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Possibility of gaseous distention of stomach is more likely which is giving false sensations of second stomach. But better to get done ultrasound abdomen to confirm this. If ultrasound is normal then no need to worry much. Give her antacid (pantoprazole) and prokinetic (levosulperide) combination twice daily on empty stomach to relieve gaseous distention.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
