What Does Absence Of Bowel Movement In An Infant Indicate?

My baby is 15days old. She reduced her weight from 2.5kgs to 1.9kgs (2.5kgs was at birth time). She is not passing stool since last 9days, before that everything was ok. She is taking breast feeding, but I think she is not getting that sufficiently. Now, is it the reason for no stool for long time? In that case, shall i go for some other food suppliment? Can i try dulcoflex?? Please suggest!!

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Inability to pass stools for nine days is suggestive of intestinal obstruction. I suggest you to consult your pediatrician at the earliest. In case there is any obstruction in intestine, it needs to be managed by surgery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
