What Does An Abscess Above A Surgical Incision Indicate?
My husband fractured his right ankle and had surgery eight months ago. A month and a half ago, he developed an abscess above the incision which his doctor drained and prescribed antibiotics. It seemed to heal up and then shortly after just above another one has formed. It is red, a bit swollen, and has a dark purple circle in the center. He has not other symptoms and recent blood work (CBC and CRP) came back normal. It looks as though it is festering. What could be causing this?
After going through your query I understand your concern.
I would like to tell you that mostly abscess formation is caused by infection with staphylococcal bacteria. But some other factors that can infect wound and causes an abscess; - Smoking - Diabetes - Immune compromise
Its recommended to get an HBA1c ( for diabetes) and microscopic gram stain test and consult your physician with reports.
Hope this will help
Kind Regards
