Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 14 and has a big abscess on top of coccyx going down her butt. It's very large and now draing on its own. She seen dr yesterday and I'm doing warm tub soaks and we cultured it and gave rocephin shot and augmentin. It's not improving...still tons of drainage. She can't sit. I called dr again today and have referral to surgeon. It smelled like feces and was dark brown. Could this be a fistula so high at the coccyx??

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. S. Samanta's Response
Hi! this is a sacro-coccygeal drmoid cyst that got infected resulting in the abscess formation!
In your daughter's case the attention is really delayed but you have rightly sent pus for culture and also taking right kind of anti-antibiotics till report comes; stop warm tub and give her NSAIDS group of medicines!
This is an infected cyst therefore simple drainage would not help much; it needs excision or en-mass removal including whole cyst wall and the surrounding involved soft tissues for cure!
wishing her early recovery...
