What Does An Inflamed Spot On The Nostril Indicate?

Hello Dr. Rynne, thank you for your availability. My 4 year old granddaughter has a very small spot to the left of her nostril that becomes inflamed and resolves every few weeks. It doesn t help that she scratches it. When it is not an active break out it is tiny skin colored raised bump until it erupts again. It appears to only involve one pore. I am concerned that it will grow, that it may be indicative of something more significant, or that it will scar her face. Please advise. Thank you, Cyndi Ryan

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of inflamed spot on the nostril which is due to irritated lining of nostrils. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction , injury to the nose , repeated sneezing and upper respiratory infection. For now take benadryl twice a day , apply cold compresses on nose and take steam. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order nasal endoscopy , CT scan ,blood tests and x-ray to rule out conditions like nasal polyp . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) , anti histamine and may recommend surgery in case of nasal polyp. Do not touch inflamed area again and again.
