My mother used to have a wound on her tongue which was caused by a tumor on her brain and she had a surgery 10 years ago and we had it removed, back then befire the surgery the tumor caused her tongue to have a big ulcer or a wound that caused her not be able to speak properly, but the ulcer was not always there, after a week it would be get cured but again after awhile it would be back, this issue got cured by a surgery on the brain but now the ulcer on the tongue is back but very smaller now, do you think it s possible that the tumor has grew again? She used to have a big wound on her tongue nearly for 30 years
Chronic wound over tongue would not suggest underlying cancer recurrence, as that will not be silent for 30 years at least. Long term vitamin B 12 deficiency, aphthous stomatitis or other causes must be evaluated in details to get the basic cause of this tongue wound for sure. Still, if you can provide a photo picture of the tongue of your mother in follow up conversation, it would be of immense help for sure.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
