What Does An Ultrasound Showing A Shadow On The Liver Indicate?

I had an ultra sound of my gall bladder today which was extremely clean. However, secondarily, it showed a shadow on my liver which is about the size of a half dime. My primary doesn t seem concerned but he wants me to have an MRI to be sure.Should I worry needlessly? Thank you.

It is very common to have shadows in the liver which are small and remain so for your entire life, medically these are called benign swellings, which never increase.

Yes, MRI can help in characterizing the shadow in a much better way, another option is doing nothing and repeating the ultrasound after 6 months and noting the size of the shadow, if it's increasing, then it is a concern, else nothing to worry.

Most importantly are you experiencing any symptoms, which may suggest you have a liver problem?
