What Does Black Bowel Movement Indicate?

My friend just called me saying that he has black in his stool and want to wait until tomorrow AM hoping it might go away. How imperative is it that he should see a doctor? Just realized that a fee is required for an answer. Perhaps I should call one of his other local doctors/

Hello,

Black maroon stools occur due to the bleeding from the bowel. Since it is dark colored the part of the bowel is higher up, and it will take a minimum of seven days to stop. So from now on, it will definitely take seven days to subside. You have to see a doctor and get evaluated to know what is the etiology of bleeding. They might do a colonoscopy to know what has happened to your bowel and they will treat you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Archana
