Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I'm a 20 year old female. I had black stool twice today and wondering if I should be concerned. My stomach was upset yesterday and didn't think much of it but once I ate, I felt nauseous. Today, there is a bit of pressure in my abdomen and can especially feel it when I cough or sneeze. Loss of appetite today. I have had a couple of alcoholic drinks since Friday but nothing excessive. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Your history of black stool is indicative of bleeding in the upper intestinal tract, may be gastritis as you had drinks and upset stomach along with pain. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Send the stool for tests particularly of blood and occult blood. Upper GI Endoscopy. Get started on a PPI like Omeprazole, antacid. Take soft and bland diet. Stop Iron or any tonics and food rich in iron. Once diagnosed properly further management will be as per the clinical and investigations findings.
