What Does Black Menstrual Bleeding Indicate?

So two months ago, on my first month of birth control, I had no period, last month was relatively light but it was there. and this month it’s lasted (so far, still going on) a week and a half. But instead of regular blood now, it’s a black sticky tar type substance. This started yesterday. What does that mean?
