What Does Black Spots In The Urine Indicate?

My sister just called me saying she has black spots in her urine. She went to the Dr. for a UTI yesterday and was put on SMZITMP - DS. She is very sensitive to medicines so she has only taken 1/4 of a pill so far. Does she have anything to worry about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your question, i'm glad to help.

SMZ/TMP-DS is safe for treatment of UTI except your sister reacts to the drug by developing generalized itchy rashes or shortness of breath after commencing it. If this happens, your sister should stop the drug and contact the doctor.

Furthermore, i would advise her to take the drugs as prescribed by her doctor to ensure completer resolution of the symptoms.

Also, i suggest she drinks lots of water to help flush those black spots which may be urine calcium stones or blood clots.

If the spots do not disappear after treatment, please revisit your doctor for further evaluation.

I hope i have answered your question and I hope she gets well soon.

Best wishes.
