General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your problem.
Beta HCG level of 5 is seen in very early pregnancy. Beta HCG can also have such levels in non-pregnant woman. Your pregnancy test was not conclusively positive. In such cases, repeat pregnancy test is advised about 48 hours later, and if it is negative, it is concluded that pregnancy is not present, for sure.
But in your case, you are already started having your periods. Here, there is possibility that you might have an early pregnancy which was not compatible for survival and aborted by itself. Actually this happens in approximately 50% of pregnancy. The woman would feel like she is having normal period which may appear slightly heavy.
Hope this will be helpful.
Do ask if any further question is there.
Take care.
