Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am about 6 weeks pregnant and I have been bleeding for the last couple days. The doctor I saw believes I may be having a miscarriage but they aren t sure because they weren t able to see the baby on the ultrasound yet (I also may be less than 6 weeks it s just been estimated at that since my last period) so they are waiting until tomorrow to see if my hormone levels drop or rise so they can determine it that way. But my question is that I was wondering if there s any way it could be that I had twins and am miscarrying one of the twins?
No, it is very unlikely that you have been pregnant with twins and have miscarried one of them. At 6 weeks pregnant, a pregnancy in the uterus (as opposed to an extrauterine pregnancy) is very much visible on a transvaginal ultrasound. The fact that there is no pregnancy visible in the uterus does in fact suggest an early miscarriage, which is quite common. It is a sensible approach to watch hormone levels.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
